    Cool Laptop Saga

    Hi,

I know this person who bought a new laptop but barely ever uses them when she has them.:eyespop: She looked at the wrong specs and thought she was seeing 512MB, but it was wrong, it was 256MB. The laptop/notebook is a Toshiba Satellite A60 something or other [great graphics], and she decides to upgrade it herself. She buys 1GB of RAM and gets the back off and sort of snaps the metal clasps that hold the ram module in place. Techs don't seem to be able to fix this:angry: , so she wonders if she can use some glue:roll: to put the RAM in or should she just keep bidding on a super one on ebay with almost 2GB's of RAM and new?
Or get a new one off the showroom floor?

    Any idea would be appreciated.

I've just sold the same model laptop Orphelia
Could your friend put the Ram in the slot and make something to wedge it in with (pushing from the outside edge)?

She's very scared to ruin a 1GB module. Could she? LOL** The 256 just is not enough to open my :eyespop: graphics applications and such......I love the display and calibration, but this thing has got to go or do as you suggest. What would be safe to wedge in?

    Thanks Vidster

No idea what would be safe to use Orphelia Isn't the slot tight enough to hold the module on it's own? Mine was quite a tight fit if i remember rightly.

I have been too scared to try. But you are correct, the RAM module is a tight fit. The book also had wrong instructions as to how to remove it. I'm bidding on one on ebay. It's more a portable dektop I need that can handle large music files and graphics such as Photoshop. I'll try your suggestion as I really have nothing to lose, but those manuals are not always reliable.

    Thank you for the ideas

Ah Vidster, I traded it in one a new one..........bought this heavy thing to carry around:eyespop: !

This works much like a desktop, and as I mostly use a laptop on power adaptor, this suited my needs exactly. Magnificent graphics! I have XP Pro installed on this, and asked them to upgrade the RAM to 1GB module.

I did wedge the other module in the Toshiba, but fell for this machine verrrrry hard:rofl: !

Thank you for the wedge idea Vidster. It got me a rather pleasant upgrade price.

That really is a Goliath of a laptop Orphelia  I wish i had one as powerful as that. Not to sure about the 17" screen and 12lb weight though. It really is a desktop replacement isn't it 8)

A bit silly to provide a beast of a machine like that with only 256MB RAM though

Seems your looking at the Video Memory, Vidster. That machine has 1GB PC3200 RAM installed.

    Installed Video Memory 256MB
    System Memory 1GB DDR SDRAM - 400MHz

LOL Vidster, I pray they never send me to the end gate for an airflight:eyespop: !!! No, seriously, I carry laptop, a briefcase and handbag:eyespop: . Keeps me fit. This laptop is one purchase no one would regret, and the weight is worth it.
