    Dvd Drive--

Ok Im a newbie here that needs help because im somewhat computer literate.

I had reboot my systemax ascent System Model AWRDACPI like 2 times already because of my family's misuse of internet.

My dvd drive can read cd's but cannot read dvd's.

when i put the dvd in the drive it doesnt read it at all as if it wasnt there.

for example if i place the dvd in then close the drive bay, i go to my computer and nothing changes, then i double click the drive and it tells me to insert disc.

    can anyone help me?

Make sure you have a DVD Decoder installed for your system to be able to play DVDs. My personal favorite is PowerDVD but that costs a few bucks, there is quite a few over at download.com Hopefully that helps.

[EDIT] Do a Windows update and see if it has updated drivers for your drive.

What DVD drive do you have?

Can be a codecs problem too. PowerDVD is quite good, but I stick with WinDVD. Are the DVD's burns or originals? Some DVD players/burners will not read all DVD's.

I would run a test and try to make windows media your default player and see what error messages you get.

    Good Luck!

i took a closer look by taking the drive out of my computer... the dvd drive has really nothing written on it. lol that didnt help... im assuming its some generic piece of ... hardware i tried the MFC42.DLL but it was higher version, and the dvd is original (movie: Miracle - disney)

i would have tried getting the latest drivers from the manufacturer, but alas i could not find the manufacturer... blah

im gonna probably have to look up the numbers on the stupid thing.

If by the time you have found the manufacturer of the drive and feel everything else has been tried, I would suggest getting a Firmware update.
