A year ago lightning cooked my whole computer and just this Sunday night, another modem got ruined due to lightning.

This time I had a proper surge protector...but, my hubby did me a favor and tried to turn off the computer during the storm. He turned off the surge protector instead. :roll: Sometimes he see's me unplug everything and pull the phone line and that is what he was attempting to do! :rofl: Actually, I don't know if it got cooked before or after he unplugged it. .

So, I got the new modem yesterday, got ready to put it in and in rolls another storm. A few hours later, I attempted it again and realized that the surge protectector must be ruined as well. I say that because, I cannot connect to the internet if the phone line is plugged into the protector. If I plug it directly into the computer...then it will connect. Will have to pick one up today.

Anyway, this was a pretty spectacular storm. The weather service said they recorded 5,000 lightning strikes in just one hour.

What I got is a surge protector with a battery backup. Hopefully, that will do the trick. I didn't know that surge protectors got burned up themselves. Apparently once they are hit, they can become ineffective. That's what they guy in the store said anyway.

Just like that Blizey. Surge protectors aren't all they're cracked up to be, but hopefully since it has a battery backup it'll be better!

I sure hope so!
