    Please help, my Cd-Rw/ DVD-Rom doesn't work!!!

My Toshiba SD-1012 Cd-Rw DVD-ROM doesn't work. I checked the properties and it said "Device working properly". It takes in the discs/dvd's and all but it shows as if nothings even there. I right clicked (D;) and it really doesnt show any disc that is present even though it is in the drive. This has never happened before and i havent recently installed a new driver nor do i need to.I ran Anti-virus. I already tried to troubleshoot it and it couldn't help and i checked the device manager and it shows that it "works" properly. Please help out i dont know whats going on.

Hello and welcome to the forum cali!

Does the drive itself still work? You can eject it, it lights up etc?

    Welcome to CbtTechs cali
My first thought's would be to re-install the drivers. Failing that i would run Checkdisk and sfc /scannow from the 'Run' box.
Note the space after the sfc. To run Checkdisk type 'chkdsk' in to the 'Run' box.

    Howdy again!

To keep going off of what Vidster suggested, try this tutorial on using sfc without a CD.

What I would do is remove the device from the Device Manager, restart your computer and let Windows add it, if it doesn't automatically do that start the add new hardware wizard.

    Hello There,

You have not by any chance changed any cables or jumpers on this drive, have you? I mean, like did you just install the drive or did it just quit working? Has it always worked fine before now?

If you are comfortable with working on the inside of your puter. Another idea. If the device worked. Shut down the puter DISCONNECT the POWER,Open your case. Touch the case to dissapate the STATIC ELECTRICITY, Unplug the device and restart your puter. Then shut it down reconnect reconnect the device and restart your puter. Windows should see it, just follow the onscreen directions.
