general question about scanners
Does anyone know much about digital cameras and or scanners. I am trying to explain to my powers that be at my office that the old flatbed scanner they have from 1997 is not the best thing going. any insight or information would be helpful and greatly appreciated. if you want leave me an e-mail here or at my company e-mail at npitsenbarger@jamesfree.com.
thanks

Hiya again Nathan!
Always nice to see another Ohian join the board! That makes 4 of us now I believe!
. I highly suggest you remove your e-mail, as we have been having some problems with spam-bots in these last two days.
I think the best solution for your company would be an all-in-one solution, since most businesses have fax lines, and need printer and a scanners. You may also want to get a stand-alone scanner. What will the scanner be used for if you don't mind me asking?
This should give you an idea on cost.

We need to scan pictures of jewelry to put on appraisals.

Jewelry from what i've seen doesn't scan very well. You may want to invest in 2-3 Megapixel Camera and setup a spot with good lighting, and maybe a blackfelt felt backdrop.
My mother makes wire jewelry as her hobby and I built her a little "photo booth" so she could take pictures of her jewelry, it works pretty well.

thanks cameron for providing me with the information about the cameras. i am not very familiar with digital cameras, but from internet articles i have researched, they also suggest using digital cameras to take pictures of jewelry. now i know what type of camera to look into to provide recommendations to the bosses. thanks again!!

I have a Kodak digital cam, and it is great! Unlimited videos(limited by SD card size), and the pictures are excellent!
As for scanners, I have a 5 year old HP, and it still works fine, and great quality.

Rob, there's a difference between the camera you buy to take pictures on your family's outting and the one's you'll use to take pictures that might be used for product promotion
The more the camera does in terms of "features" and, in the case of digitial camera's the more Megapixels it will deal with the more expensive it is. a Digital SLR would probably be best, but they're pretty expensive, even 35mm SLR's are still expensive.

Oh yeah... true... I forgot it was for company
As for SLR's, I have a nice Canon Rebel XT
