need help with setting up home sound system.

i belive its possible but i was wondering how i can connect my computer to my home stero so that i can listen to mp3's on my stereo speakers. i know it has something to do with "spdif" out, and my sound card has that. i was wondering how i could do this and what it would cost me.
    -thanks-

(oh yeah my sound card is 5.1)

I did this a few years ago (when my AMD K6/2 450MHz system was pretty up-to-date!!) so here's the old-fashioned backwards-compatible way to do it (any PC can do this) :

Buy a phono-to-mini-jack lead. This is a lead that has a mini-jack in one end (the same as your PC speakers or microphone) and a phono / RCA connector at the other end.

Plug the mini-jack into your speaker output and the phono lead into an auxiliary input in your home stereo. Voila. Set up Media Player with your MP3 tracklist, whack up your stereo and enjoy all your MP3s as loud as you like!

Aaaah, Christmas Eve 2000 - I remember that party well, lol

btw, you won't find these kinds of leads everywhere. I think I got mine from Tandy's (electrical shop - Maplins and other such places may also have them).

Alternatively, have a look on QXL - http://www.QXL.Co.UK
