    Keyboard stopped working

I have a desktop with a 1 GHz Intel Celeron processor. While I was online my keyboard quit working. It is a PS/2 keyboard. I closed out my browser and opened MS Word; my keyboard didn't work there either. I rebooted my system and clicked on Shift-F10 to enter reconfig and my keyboard didn't work there either. I get a clicking sound from my machine when I hit a key and the sound repeats if I hold a key down. Everything else is working just fine. I even tried a new keyboard on the system and it didn't work either. Any ideas? Thanks

Welcome to the forum scotto1958 :-)

Have you tried the keyboard in safe mode? and have you installed any new software recently?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have tried the keyboard in safe mode and I haven't installed any new software. I'm wondering if it is a connection problem inside the case.

OK....Open Device manager (Right click 'my computer'>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager). Navigate to your keyboard and check for any error icons.
If there are none, i would recommend uninstalling the keyboard drivers and rebooting.
Also...check your bios to make sure everything is switched on there.

Vidster, first let me thank you for your help and patience.....I really appreciate it. There were no error icons at the keboard in the Device Manager. I uninstalled the drivers and rebooted....still doesn't work. Is there another way to check the bios other than at bootup? If there isn't, I'm out of luck because the keyboard does not respond at bootup either. Thanks

It may be that your ps2 connection is fried then scotto

Is there another computer around that you could try the keyboard in?

Yes there is another computer to test with. If it works on the other computer does it mean my ps2 connection is out?

I would have thought so yes
It might be time to invest in a USB keyboard.
