    AMD or Intel

Which is your favorite and why? Which one do you have in your system as of now?

I love Intel but I am slowly starting to like AMD more and more. I love the stabilty of Intel.

It is Amd all the way for me.
Old machine is a 1 gig tbird. I had so many comments on how big and powerful this machine was when I bought it...lol It is still going strong with nary a problem.
Main machine is an Athlon 64, 3400. These machines outperform comparable intels that cost substantially more.
I'm going to try windows xp 64 bit edition eventually and a linux 64 bit edition to see what this platform can really do.
Amd is certainly good value. I cannot comment on Intels not ever having one.

I went with the Msi k8t neo motherboard. Top rated, feature full, and reasonably priced. If you are looking at a new build think about the msi. Aopen is also making some great boards these days.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to save up and as I know nothing about motherboards it's good to find out what to ask for. I'm useing an ECS which the techie installed for me and as I now know they are not very good. Still it's working and I will be able to upgrade sometime.

I have only ever had Intel processors in my pc's. At the moment both my desktop and my laptop have 2.8GB 'Celery' (Celeron) D's in them. I know they are not very good but the next year is going to be very interesting indeed with new processors coming out. I will wait a while before upgrading my systems ;-).

I have been loking at the specs (i don't understand them:-() and the prices of the AMD's compared to the Intel P4's. I was under the impression that AMD's were not as expensive as P4's but how wrong was i!.
The top of the range AMD was over £100 more than the equivelent P4?.

It seems that the gap between AMD and Intel is not as wide as it was previously!.

Life has been made easier for PC users torn between choosing an AMD and an Intel processor for their new PC. Motherboard manufacturer Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) has produced a converter card that will allow processors from AMD to be used on the companys Intel-processor motherboards. The PF88 converter, which will fit some ECS motherboards, will be available in May, and will cost a third of the price of a new motherboard.
