Can someone delete this thread?, it was just hardware, so no use to anyone. Cheers

No! This is a place of learning and folks need to deal with hardware issues too! You learned something - how about sharing what you learned so perhaps someone who finds this thread via a search can learn something too?Can someone delete this thread?, it was just hardware, so no use to anyone. Cheers
Yeah, I understand that, but what I learned is that the specific piece of hardware is a dud so it's not much help to anyone.
That was not my point. Other readers may have the same problem and come seeking answers, just a you did. Some folks come from new things to learn in their own areas of expertise. Forums are, after all, a place for the "exchange" of information and work on a "give" and take sharing arrangement. Every one, even staff and regular helpers, are here to learn too.
A laptop is not one specific piece of hardware, but a "system" of hardware devices, interfaced with one another and the user through software. Your avoidance to enlighten us hinders efforts to identify possible trends for we don't know if a component in the motherboard's circuitry for the integrated sound has actually failed, the headphone (and speaker cut-out) jack is damaged, Sony, IBM, or eMachines, or the speakers themselves are bad - as HW examples; or if a driver is corrupt, incorrect Windows configuration, or a media player configuration was incorrect - examples on the software side; or if there's just an unwillingness to admit operator cranial flatulence.
We don't generally delete threads unless they are morally offensive or otherwise break the rules of the site. We do however, move threads to more applicable forums when necessary, such as to the site's Hardware forum - moving being preferred (Internet wide) to the OP opening multiple threads on the same topic in multiple locations (or sites) - considered poor forum etiquette.
Do nothing (and you have the Right to that choice) and this tread will soon slide off the page. Post how you fixed it, and it will slide off almost as fast.
Well the person who gave it to me has since informed me that they "might have got it wet" just before the fault arose.
It's not fixed, and I doubt it would be economical to try to fix it. They're lucky it is just the sound that has problems
I suggested deleting this thread becasue it it matches someone search it would just give false hope that there is an answer to their problem. Since it is not likely to be of use to anyone, I do think it should be deleted as not to waste anyones time.
Anyway, do whatever you like, there's no need to lecture me.
No lecture - I try to write so all reading, present and future, can get the big picture.
It happens. Drinks spill.Well the person who gave it to me has since informed me that they "might have got it wet" just before the fault arose.
Haha, ok. Fair enough. Thanks anyway
