Can't find my hard drive
I have a Gateway Performance 800 that crashed and will not recognise any hard drive. when I try to boot with a restore disk containing the operating system, windows ME . The disk starts to run, then I get " ERROR CODE 2405 INVALID DESTINATION DRIVE NUMBER SPECIFIED". I have replaced the battery and master hard drive. Both slave and master drives are listed in bios. I have some common sense but little computer knowledge. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to D-A-L.
Do you have a Windows ME (install) disc/CD?
If you've replaced the hard disc and have a Windows ME CD, boot to CD and install ME.
The error code (ERROR CODE 2405) means; The drive letter is in use locally.
You may have to blank the HD, then Partition it, then reboot/format the new Hard Disk to procede.
