    Guess what's fried!

    Hello everyone,

Have a problem, hope you can help...

One day we had a power failure (how many times ya heard that?) and my Comp shut down. With the power back I tried to fire up the rig and hit the switch.

    nothing.

no sounds, no hum just a click and silence. Checked all connections and notice there's a small green light flashing on the back of the power supply (Bestec ATX-300-12Z-BD ) and a soft beep. Guessing the power supply is shot I take it out and plug in the PS only, light goes steady green, no sound.

Anyone know what the light means? I replace the MB about a year ago so I hope it's not that... Where does my problem lie...

Thanks in advance for any help!

Unfortunately, power outages are rarely just a clean cut loss of power, but typically spit, sputter and flicker for a few milliseconds - this is horrible abuse for power circuits.

Blinking LED typically is not good. I would try another supply or have that one professionally tested. But I worry with the LED going steady when disconnected from the motherboard is a sign of something bad on that end. You could start with only minimum - one stick of RAM, one drive and no extras.

Power outages are not common, but they do happen, and are but one reason I recommend all computers be on a UPS - uninterruptible power supply, more commonly called "battery backup", though the power regulation is really the key point.
