    Another... Direct x 10.1

When i installed my graphics card, I noticed i was using direct x 9. So I decided to get directx 10. As if the microsoft website was useless enough. I got the download and it says its up to date, direct x 9 up to date?.... w.e

Either way, after searching i found directx 10 for xp which microsoft failed to have on their own website.

Now, im looking for directx 10.1. And i literally cannot find it anywere..

    Hi ,

Directx 10.1 is at alpha stage with XP but comes as standard in Vista editions via Microsoft Update . Seems to be no compatability issues with XP from what I've been reading and found you a download link :

DirectX 10.1 for Windows XP » Worldsdown - Free Download, Rapidshare Links, Downloads, Games, Movies, Warez, Torrent, Cracks, Serial, Keygen,

That is an unofficial website so use that at your own risk. DirectX 10 has never officially been designed or released for XP but for Vista only. Quote from Wikipedia:
A major update to DirectX API, DirectX 10 ships with and is only available with Windows Vista; previous versions of Windows such as Windows XP are not able to officially run DirectX 10-exclusive applications.[5] There are unofficial ports of DirectX 10 to XP, however these do not always work reliably. Changes for DirectX 10 were extensive.
Direct3D 10.1 is an incremental update of Direct3D 10.0 which is shipped with, and requires, Windows Vista Service Pack 1.
    From Microsoft:
Will DirectX 10 be available for Windows XP?

No. Windows Vista, which has DirectX 10, includes an updated DirectX runtime based on the runtime in Windows XP SP2 (DirectX 9.0c) with changes to work with the new Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) and the new audio driver stack, and with other updates in the operating system. In addition to Direct3D 9, Windows Vista supports two new interfaces when the correct video hardware and drivers are present: Direct3D9Ex and Direct3D10.

Since these new interfaces rely on the WDDM technology, they will never be available on earlier versions of Windows. All the other changes made to DirectX technologies for Windows Vista are also specific to the new version of Windows. The name DirectX 10 is misleading in that many technologies shipping in the DirectX SDK (XACT, XINPUT, D3DX) are not encompassed by this version number. So, referring to the version number of the DirectX runtime as a whole has lost much of its meaning, even for 9.0c. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool (DXdiag.exe) on Windows Vista does report DirectX 10, but this really only refers to Direct3D 10.
For all that I know installing this onto your system might result in instability and even corruption so beware.

There is an upgrade version that is cheaper and you can usually upgrade XP but sometimes that doesn't work and you have to do a clean install. On Newegg you can buy a retail copy and it comes with a free upgrade to windows 7 when it comes out. Or you can buy the cheaper OEM version that will only activate on one computer. The cheapest way to go would be to pre-order 7 when it become available to you and use the windows 7 RC until it is released. I don't know about for you but it is available for pre-order until the 11th of 50 USD [home premium]. I believe the pre-order will eventually be available for your country.
