    Ati driver disobeys.

I went and reinstalled xp on my other laptop. Nothing special no biggy, just another re installation. But this time when i installed my ati driver it acts as if it never installed at all.

    This is really frustrating.
I did nothing wrong. Same procedure.

Ill probably find the fix soon but hey, if someone finds it before me feel free to help [:

    just another re installation.
Ummm, re-installations should not be a common occurrence for any XP or newer computer, especially a notebook.
    Same procedure.
Same procedure as what? There is nothing standard about reinstalling an OS on a notebook. They are too proprietary with proprietary devices, drivers, and configurations.

How are you attempting to install the drivers? What happens? Did you try uninstalling the current and installing the new following he instructions for the latest drivers on your notebook's website?

    What forced the reinstall?

Also For some reason. I managed to get it work but not work at the same time.
I did some next level stuff installed it... but as usual it installed as if nothing installed at all and even though it shows everything as -unavailable- and -driver missing- I some how got it to function on games... so till then...
    its temporarily fixed..

My aunt and my uncle always find a way to screw up this laptop beyond repair, so im forced to just reinstall xp. Yes I could use the backup disc and put Vista on it, but my aunt doesnt want vista. I could put 2 OS on it, but I haven't learned how to do that yet.
When i say same procedure its like.. I reinstall xp.. put the drivers.. done... no problems.. no errors.. .
You wouldnt believe me if i told you Gateway doesnt have any drivers on their website for this model. Believe me ive checked for hours. I had to find my own on the internet. took me 3 weeks. Anyways they work 100% Ive Re-installed the os many times before on this laptop.
I install the drivers the way i always do, I right click my computer >
properties>Hardware>Device manager>update driver>No not this time>install from a list or specific location> Then i give the path, It finds it, installs.

But the ATI driver, All i have to do is double click and it installs on its own. Worked every time... except this once.

Also i have 2 of the same notebooks. -Just 1 with no screen lol..- and i tested re-installing the os on both of them everything works the exact same on both of them, just the ATI driver wont work on the.... one were talking about

You might try Driver Cleaner Professional and see if you can completely remove the old driver, then get the new to go.
