    Hi ,

What GFX card are you using ? Nvidia or ATI ? Any specific monitor drivers ? I just had similar problems with my samsung syncmaster 2220LM when I updated my Nvidia 9500gt GFX drivers . If you've recently updated anything to do with GFX make sure you have any related drivers to GFX output updated too . Are you using AGP or PCIe ?? . If you've been overclocking a GFX card it will cause in many cases , a breakdown in essential pixel pipelines . A GFX card will run only half the avaliable pipeline architecture on the card , overclocking simply opens some of the redundant lines .

I have an ATI Radeon 9800 pro AGP, Haven't updated any graphics or monitor drivers and haven't overclocked anything. Just started happening for no reason.

Sometimes i get fuzzy bars down the screen that actually move if i knock the pc and also if i wriggle the graphics card a tiny bit. Other times it boots up absolutely fine.

I'm thinking, maybe the graphics card is on it's way out.

Can you try the card in another computer? Can you try another card in that computer? Never ever jiggle or move anything while the computer is running. All you should need to do is make sure that the card is all the way in the slot, that the clip back behind the card is locked in place and that the card is line up flush in the slot. The card must also the screwed in. Have you checked the contacts? Have you inspected the card for burst, bulging or corroded capacitors? Does the card have a power plug? Is it still under warranty?

    Hi ,

Yes the 9800 pro is an old card so posssibly could be on it's way out . I say possibly but not definitely . I used to have the same card and overclock it with ATI tool - downloadable at

    ATi Tool 0.27 b2 download from Guru3D.com

This runs tests and pixel capabilities on the card in gradual increments , try running this as a non overclocking tool just to see if the results fail at the earliest stages - if they do then it's time for a new GFX card tbh .

Do you have an onboard GFX VGA ? Try using that , will only be a 64mb or 128mb dependent on the make of motherboard but will also allow for comparison ( make sure to remove the AGP card before using the onboard ) . Or try borrowing another GFX card or use a spare if you have one .

Very rarely the AGP slot can get damaged but that is a rarity .

As for replacement if indeed that's what is required , I'm guessing your not using the pc for top spec graphics so your looking at around £30 - £40 for a card of similar capability .
