Mmm yeah i can see where your coming from but the sound doesnt work on anything, itunes, the internet, i dont even get the famous XP sound when u first log in.
And also, it wasnt working way before i got WMP11, its a long ongoing problem and i cant seem to resolve it
Again, any other help would be greatly appreciated.
Dude, you are sending mixed signals! In your opening post, you said,
And yesterday you said, the sound did work when i opened the control panel for the sound and tested it on my headphones there was sound and when i play WOW it worked aswell.Do you have sounds, or not?its not as if the sound doesnt work, it does as i said earlier just not on anything else apart from World of Warcraft and the control panel for the actual sound card which is really weird isnt it?
If you have sound coming from your speakers, your sound card works. That means the drivers for the sound card works.
So my guess is somewhere between WMP, Quicktime, RealPlayer, PowerDVD, iTunes, and who knows what else, as each tries to take control, your file associations have become corrupt. You can fix one at a time manually by going into My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types, review each entry, then re-assign the associations one at a time, or you can uninstall WMP, re-install it and see it can sort out the associations.
You've been given good suggestions already. If you are uncomfortable with that, there is no shame in taking the computer to a shop.Again, any other help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not ive explained myself. I get sound from world of warcraft and the sound card control panel, thats it. Everything else i dont get any sound from. Thats what i meant but ill try what you said, thanks.
Try selecting run from the start menu and type in dxdiag and then hit enter. Now click on the sound tab, make sure bar beside Hardeware Sound Acceleration Level: is all the way up [to the right]. Also make sure in the box that it says "no problems found". Now run the sound test by click on Test DirectSound.
Have you tried reinstalling the drivers? Do you have the latest drivers installed?
Like Digerati said there is always a repair shop. There is only so much we can do here.
Ok that helped alot actually i think i might be getting sopmewhere now.
Basically the hardware accelaration slider was already to the right (full) so that was fine, in the box you mentioned there was 'no problems found' so that was fine aswell. But when i clicked 'Test DirectSound' it failed and the results were there was no driver.
However, i know ive updated the drivers on my C-Media sound card so i went onto the Music tab and there were 2 sound ports i could test the sound with, Microsoft Synthesizer and the C-Media one.
Microsoft Synthesizer failed the test and is the default port, C-Media passed it because i heard the sample music coming out of the headphones.
If your still with me, im guessing the problem is that the computer is using Microsoft Synthesizer as the default port and therefore the sound isnt working. So i was wondering how to deactivate that and set C-Media as my default port, because that should sort the problem. Thanks very much.
Another thing i just found in the Sounds and Audio Devices on the Control Panel, under the hardware tab, when i click on the C-media sound card, it says the drivers for the midi etc have been enabled but have not been started. Also, everything on the Audio and Voice tab is greyed out, i cant select anything.
start --> run and type in services.msc. Scroll down to windows audio and make sure that says automatic and started. If it doesn't say either double click on it select automatic as the start up type and click on start. Have you rebooted your computer since updating your drivers?
No luck... it says Automatic and Started where it should say it. Can you not disable Microsoft Synthesizer then because thats what my computer is using as the default sound.
