I am looking to purchase an External Drive Enclosure for a Dell Dimension 4100 to recover data. Here's some info about my system:
Dell Dimension 4100
BIOS Version - A06
Intel Pentium III Processor
Speed 933 MHz
System Bus freq - 133 MHz
Cache RAM - 256 kb
Total memory - 128 MB
Memory bank - 128 MB (PC133)
My processer serial number is [Disabled].
I was looking at different makes on Newegg, but have one question: can I buy anything, or are there only certain ones that will work with my computer's hard drive? The one thing I have been told is to "not to go cheap."
Thanks in advance.
I'm the one that provided you with a link right? I narrowed down the search for what you need to get. External Drive enclosures. I'll break it down for you. Since you have a desktop you need one for a 3.5" drive, you also need one with an IDE internal interface (what the hard drive connects to), and a USB external interface (how the enclosure connects to the computer). If you notice at the top all of the specifics are in green. That gives you 34 choices compared to over 400.Other than that get a mid priced one with lots of positive reviews (4 or 5 "eggs").

Are you saying you want to pull the drive out of the Dell and put it in the enclosure? If so, then you do need an enclosure that supports an internal IDE interface.
If you mean another drive will go in the enclosure - then that can be SATA internally - how it connects to the computer is what matters.
I gave him this link on another thread and looked up his specs then.
Hi...just to add to townsbg's info... I have personal experience with this model and am very, very happy with it.
