USB 2.0 TO SATA IDE CABLE does not work properly

    Hi

I tried to use new branded “R-Driver III” USB 2.0 TO SATA IDE CABLE device with Laptop HD and Desktop HD (once at a time) but it did not show me the HD , although I checked Disk Management (each one at a time)

I thought the problem with “ R-Driver III ”, about another one branded as Ritmo

Still the same problem is going on with both Hard Disks (external power source is used for 3.5 HD not 2.5,,,,,,,,I have hear spinning for 3.5 but not for 2.5)

Both hard disks are working if I hook them into a computer

The device that I was talking about is similar to the link below

DealExtreme: $12.90 USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Cable with Power Adapter

sata to usb cable, Computers, USB, SATA items at low prices on eBay.com.au

    Any thought would be appreciated

    Thanks

Did you use the power adapter when connection the 3.5" HDD to the computer? This article states that it is needed.
Connect desktop harddisk (IDE/SATA) to any computer via USB with power adaptor
This makes sense because a 3.5" drive will need more power than a 2.5" and probably more than a USB cable can provide.

What OSs are involved? Is the 3.5" drive an IDE or is it SATA? If it is IDE is it set to master or slave? What kind of drive is the 2.5"? Did you check the BIOS to make sure that it is recognized by the computer?

    I tried both.

    IDE.

It ic connected throught USB, I do not think you would be able to see via BIOS

Please check the BIOS anyway under the hard drive section. For clarification, you are using XP Pro Sp 3 on both of the computers?

Are you able to connect other USB drives to the desktop such as an external drive or a thumb drive? Is there a way for you to tell if the adapter is getting power? Have you tried connecting the 3.5" drive to both computers?

If it is still under warranty you might consider returning it because it might be defective.

Two of them and with two different HDs, which I doubt

    Yes

3.5 HD is spinning that means it is getting power

Just curious. Did you get a driver cd with your power adapter. And if so did you install the driver off the cd. Also after reading comments. All USB 2.0 TO SATA IDE CABLE are not created equal. Some work in certain scenarios and some other scenarios they don't.

No, both of them do not have CD.

I just mentioned this because of the description in the link you posted.

1 x USB 2.0 to SATA / IDE Adapter Cable
    1 x Driver CD
    1 x Power Adapter (100~240VAC)
1 x Power Cord ( Support according to your registered country, if you want to change, please let us know as soon as you buy. )
    1 x SATA 25cm Data Cable
1 x SATA Power Adapter Cable
    1 x English Menu
I also see some don't require a driver cd. Like I said. All adapters aren't created equal I guess. If it was me( but I am somewhat proficient doing this). I would download and Burn a Linux Live CD. Boot it up after connecting adapter. Then mount my Windows file system. Then Pull whatever I needed off that drive using Linux and insert it into Windows. But that is me.
