Boot it up after connecting adapter
I am Unix and Linux user for a while, still you have to connect the 3.5 HD or 2.5 HD to a PC,,,,,How are you going to connect that to a box ?

Either you will have that HD connected through IDE cable or SATA cable and use your bootable linux CD and an external USB HD,,,,,and this is not feisable all the time.

Does the 3.5 work in this particular computer internally?

Thought being if this computer is a SATA I motherboard and the drives are SATA II.

If this were the case most SATA drives have a SATA I/II jumper on the rear.

Also that 2.5 would certainly need power from somewhere. The USB isn't going to power it.

I grabbed the 60 GB 3.5 HD from my clinet old PC and it was working perfectly, he bought a new desktop and I just grabbed the HD from his old PC.

I brought home to copy all his works and document to a DVD.

The 3.5 HD is IDE and his mother is IDE as well.

There is no place or socket on a 2.5 HD to feed it with power

He said that both are IDE, the drives work in a computer, & the adapter comes with a power cord.

    1. Connect laptop 2.5" harddisk (IDE/SATA) to any computer via USB without power adaptor
    An article I found

If the drives are IDE change the jumper to either Cable Select or Slave.

Sorry your original post had me thinking it was a SATA drive,

I had already tried slave , but not cable select.
