    Mouse pointer dissappears

I have a problem with the mouse pointer - it dissappears -
Gateway PC with a microsoft optical wired mouse -
    - have harddrive problems that now seem to be ok?, but when computer boots up, the mouse pointer does not appear - I need to use keyboard to select everything. The mouse actually works - the buttons and moving the mouse actually repositions the invisible mouse - i've been able to select items by trial and error, slowly moving mouse until an item is highlighted then clicking to select.
I've reloaded my drivers using the cd, I've gone on-line to update the drivers, i've unplugged the mouse, shut down computer, then restarted and plugged in mouse. All with same result - pointer still invisible.
I've found one work around and that was to add a "tail" using mouse properties, but I had to do this procedure for each of the 5 users on this pc.
    any fixes?

Have you checked the settings under Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers?

Perhaps try changing the pointer style to see if it makes a difference.

Yes i went to the mouse properties and pointers - that's where I was able to add the "tail" and got the pointer back. But I had to do this for each user, and that shouldn't have to work that way..... still working it.
