Thumbs up Upgrade to a Pentium 4 cpu

    Hi,
It might be a stupid question, in the light of m/board details saying that the maximum clock speed of the cpu would be only a Pentium 4 2.2GHz Northwood core S478 FSB 400/533, have I no hope of putting in a P4 3.06 GHz FSB 533 and it working? Currently, I've got a Celeron 2.3 GHz cpu.
    Thanks for your time.

If that board supports 533, then I would think the P43.06GHz would work. But without you telling us the exact make and model of the motherboard, we can't say for sure. If it is your manual that is telling you the maximum clock speed, I would ignore that and go out to the maker's web site and see if a new BIOS is available - if so, I suspect it supports the faster CPU - check the history.

Thanks Digerati. http://www.geocities.com/msh1552/imperial.html takes you to the details of my mobo. I don't know how to check if another BIOS will support a faster cpu.
If you could cast your eye over it I would be obliged.

I've discovered that my BIOS is PhoenixBIOS 4.0 release 6.00 if that helps.

I removed your duplicate post, that's a broken link and no, that BIOS info does not help. Belarc Advisor may shed some light.

Is there a computer make and model number?
