    Short asrock mb slots

I am using a new asrock motherboard 4CoreDuel-Sata2. Now I tried to install an ATI X1950 Pro Graphics card. It only went in so far, leaving about half of the copper plate out of the slot. I have been using this Graphics card for a little while but I keep have a pc freeze. Do you think it is the graphics cards inability to go all the way in to the MB, which is causing this to happen. Apart from that I anm not sure just how to upgrade the bios, which was another thought in my mind. I would be interested to know what you think about this problem.
    Thank you so much.

Do you mean only half as in how far you can press down?

Did you fasten the clip at the end?

    Did you power that card?

What is the wattage of your PSU.

The physical slot should work although it is PCI_E x 4 and not x 16 as the card is.

I would disconnect that computer from the wall, pull the card, and never turn on a computer again when you know a major component is not fully seated. If you are lucky, you have not destroyed anything.

Do not mess with the BIOS until you get your hardware sorted out following jephree's lead.

I note that motherboard is a crossover board - that is, it has both AGP and PCIe graphics slots. You MUST ensure you are using the correct one.

First, thank you replying so fast. It is only in half way. I do not think the clip is on it . Not sure what you meant, regarding did I power the card. The PSU is 580. I am using the agp slot. I will do like you siggested by taking it out. I might even try another graphics card and see if that one will fit. Apart from that, I suppose I should consider a PCI card instead. I will let you know if all goes well.

That card you have is a PCI_E card and I don't see how you could have used the AGP as it wouldn't work.

The second lower slot is PCI_E. There is a retention clip at the end of it.

It will take any PCI_E card but only runs at 4x whereas your card could run at 16x.

That card is worth about 4 or 5 of those motherboards.

OK. Sorry. I see they do make an AGP version.

But if the card does not fit the slot do not use it.

I managed to get the card to sit in the slot. There does semm a bit of movement if you try to rock it from one end to the other, as if there a small bump in the middle of the slot. I was using three HDs, one was a Sate and the other two ide. I took one of the ide out, just incase it was getting too much for my psu. That did not make any difference, it still froze a bit later, so I am back at square one.

You should have plenty of power.

I am still not sure what the slot issue is but there should be no movement.

At first you said the slot was "short" indicating the card pins were longer than the slot and you were only getting some pins in which I doubt if that would even work.

So I asked if you meant rather than length that you just couldn't push it down all the way (seating).

So now I am guessing you mean seating and there is still something wrong there.

Look at the pins and the slot. Do they appear to match? Do you see any difference in their configurations?

    Hi Jephree,
I managed to get the graphicics card in the slot. I also managed to fix the problem of the pc frezing. One of the processor heatsink plugs was loose. I could not do much about it, except buy a better new heatsink and fan. All is well at the moment so I can say this issue is resloved.
Thank you once again for your most welcome help. It was deeply appreciatted.
    All the best.
