    emachine disk read error

I had a power outage today and when power was restored i booted my other pc up and I now get the following:

    Press F11 to start recovery

    A disk read error occurred
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

I do not have the recovery cd for that computer but i do have one for this pc (same model etc.) purchased at same time. when i try to use the disk 1 (for this computer) in the recovery process for the other one it rejects it.

What am i to do? I called emachine and they dont make recovery cds for anything before 2006.

    Thank you in advance.

What is the exact model of eMachine?

Can you enter the BIOS Setup?

What exact error do you get from the recovery CD?

That model indicates Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Is that the type of CD you are trying to use?

F11 should have gone to the hard disk recovery partition.

Can you verify in your BIOS that the computer "sees" your hard drive?

    I have read your manual

    http://downloads.emachines.com/userg...erGuide_en.pdf

unfortunately eMachine does not speak to the BIOS Setup.

It should be under Drives or HDD or Disk Priority or Boot Priority etc.

Maybe a General section maybe Advanced.

So you have two hard drives. A Seagate Master and a Maxtor slave.

Can you verify that the Seagate Master is first on the Boot Priority?
