So I reinstalled windows and at a certain point of the reinstall windows asked me if I wanted to partition it. STUPID me I agreed thinking I was saving my pictures and music from previous windows. Well went to the site you refered it was great it enhanced a few things. I rebooted and tried to play music the message saying [ windows media player cannot play file because there is a problem with your sound devic. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly. All i get is the beep from the computer itself not windows when it shuts down or starts theres no sound......... I cant sleep till i fix this darn thing

What is the exact model # of the NetVista?

Also above you might have inferred that you have a NVIDIA PCI sound card. Do you know if you have an add on sound card or are you using the IBM/Lenovo device?

Onboard Motherboard Sound driver from Lenovo

    Lenovo Support & downloads - Drivers and software - NetVista 2273, 2292, 6043, 6343, 6349, 6350, 6790, 6791, 6792, 6793, 6794, 6795, 6822, 6823, 6825

Not sure but I think NVIDIA VANTA/VANTA LT is a graphics card, aint it jephree.

    According to Lenovo/IBM

    Lenovo Support & downloads - Drivers and software - NetVista 2273, 2292, 6043, 6343, 6349, 6350, 6790, 6791, 6792, 6793, 6794, 6795, 6822, 6823, 6825

One of these would be your audio driver if you are using onboard audio:

Lenovo Support & downloads - ADI SoundMAX audio driver (signed) for Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, and XP - D64Z26US - NetVista

Lenovo Support & downloads - ADI SoundMAX audio driver (signed) with SPX software for Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, and XP - DSIZ23US - NetVista

If you have an add on card your audio plugs would be in a horizontal configuration near the lower section of your case rear.

If you have the onboard Lenovo/IBM the audio plugs would be in a more vertical configuration nearer the top edge of the case rear below the power supply.

By the way that NVIDIA ID is for your graphics device and has nothing to do with audio/sound.
