I think I might as well migrate to Windows 7 RC1.
Do you want my advice or not? Because if you don't I'll just unsubscribe and not post here again.
Remove Vista = remove the problem
Win7 is working well for so far and I've got it configured just the way I like it. However, when I first installed it I hadn't changed the power settings yet so the computer went to sleep by default when it was idle for a bit. When I woke it up, I got a BSOD shortly after.
The big difference is that I don't get any random freezes anymore. Since I never use the sleep mode, I think everything will be fine. I'm beginning to think the wake-up crashes are related to the motherboard.
To hell with Vista

It could be a problem with your PSU returning to normal. A hardware error is the only other possibility after a reinstall of windows but it isn't necessarily from a bad motherboard. Have you checked the power settings in the BIOS? Try reverting back to the manufacturer's defaults but record any customized changes first. Do you have your CPU overclocked? You could check for BIOS updates as one of them might have fixed a discovered bug in the computer's power management. Read the release notes. Just some ideas.
When I was troubleshooting back in March, the freezing occurred even with stock clocks. The PSU is new and working fine and the BIOS is the latest version. I updated it back in February to enable quad core support.
Maybe something is wrong with the gpu's power managment.
The freezes happened with a brand new GTX 260 and my current new GTX 275.
It doesn't matter however, things are fine with Windows 7.
