    Smile Which graphics card.

I need to upgrade the graphics card for my son's PC to enable him to play a new game.
The requirements are stated as 128mb Nvidia FX5900 ultra , ATI radeon 9800 or Intel 8291SG/8291OGL or greater. He has a fairly old machine so we need an AGP card.
Does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives to the above ones. We aren't looking to spend too much. Just something that will do the job.
    Thanks in advance.

    Is it AGP 8X? 4X? 2X?

Can you ID the computer and or motherboard?

You might try our scan at the top of the page.

You left out a most necessary bit of information, your budget. I recommend you check out Best Gaming Graphics Cards For The Money: AGP Interface - Review Tom's Hardware : Best Graphics Cards For The Money: Jan. '09.

And make sure your power supply can handle the added demands of more powerful graphics.

i'd go for gf5900 as the old nvidia cards are performing better than their competition, though it will be hard to find such antique

don't go for the intel card as most of their cards are with shared video memory which leads to poor performance

It is an Emachines 770 and the board is a Trigem Imperial G. 2.4 ghz P4. It has a 350w psu. I'm not sure about the AGP. Am looking to spend about 35.00 GBP

Intel "card"? Ummm, Intel, to the best of my knowledge (an only been at this for 35 years, so still learning), has NEVER made a graphics "card". Intel graphics solutions are for "on-board" graphics - solutions integrated into motherboards. So, of course, like all on-board graphics, it would steal (share) some system RAM for graphics processing.

The AGP card should toggle down to slower AGP speed with no problem.

Note if you have a spare PCI (not PCIe) slot, just about any old PCI card will be better than on-board.

Have found a few cards on Ebay such as Pny and Gigabyte nvidia 6200 AGP. One question though. Some use DDR2. As my PC is only the old DDR, Would these cards be OK?
    Many thanks.

Graphic RAM is independent of your motherboard RAM.

    Yes it will work.
