    Laptop On the Fritz

Hello, I am a recent laptop owner, I purchased it in September 2008, and have had two problems with it. One was the charger we got with it, it stopped working a while after, i tried it on another friends laptop and it didnt work, it was after I watched a sibling use the laptop that I learned how the charger was no longer working...they bent the wires completely!

So we bought another charger, this one was a lot cheaper, a boot leg version since I am low on money after I dished out a lot for tuition. Anyways, after two months of use, my sibling made the same problem, and this time I saw a spark from the end of the laptop cord (where it enters the hardware port). This was two days ago, I thought okay I wont use the laptop until I get a new charger, but in the mean time I have a programming class (today), and so I need to take it and use a friends charger. So I did, and (I have used his charger before, when my first charger went out, used his until I got a different one) for some reason the light brightens as it should when recognizing a charger, but the battery still dies! I do not know if this is a problem caused by the spark, or the battery itself.

I thought I might add, I bought this laptop pre-owned, from a second-hand shop (cheaper), and the laptop sticker at the bottom say's 10 lithium battery, but the battery shows (manufactor symbol imprinted) it is 5 lithium. I thought maybe this might be a cause, but for it too happen all of a sudden wouldn't make sense. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what I should do, or what the problem is.

I have no warranty, or anything, and not much money for a new laptop. Any help is appreciated, also I apologize if this is in the wrong section

Does it work ok on the AC adapter?

If so I'd guess you need a new battery.

What is the make and model of the laptop?

An AC adapter is the battery charger. Run the computer plugged into the wall.

This runs off the AC current and not the battery.

HP Invent ... any model number?

Oh, then yes I had an AC adapter =P

And I don't know the model number, i have my laptop infront of me, but their are numerous things with numbers, such headings include: s/n, p/n, promo, product key, and then theirs an ISBN kind of number above the product key.

Does it work off the AC adapter?

    What is the s/n & p/n?

If it is working you could also try our scan at the top of the page.

It works off the AC adapter yes, but it has 10% battery power left and drains like AMAZINGLY fast it really sucks.

I am looking up your model.

As I said you probably need a new battery.

I can probably find the exact battery you need from HP.

    I'll post back soon.

Your serial number (s/n) shows this laptop:

HP 530 Notebook PC- HP Business Support Center

HP 530 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Battery

HP 530 Notebook PC- HP 530 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Battery - c01598464 - HP Business Support Center

They say this is/was the original battery:

    Battery (Primary) - 4-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion), 14.4VDC, 2.2Ah, 32Wh

    Part Number: 440704-001 (Modified)

    Quick Google on that battery:

    hp 4-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion), 14.4VDC, 2.2Ah, 32Wh - Google Search

I'd suggest buying from HP but actually any model with the same specs should work.
