Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device

Hi people of the forum, I have a slight problem...

A few days ago, my PC froze so I switched it off by holding the power button and restarted it, on start-up I got this message "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" I have already restored the system to factory settings and this didnt help, I have also tried putting my HDD back to primary on the BIOS, which worked once, but now the BIOS doesn't even acknowledge the presence of the HDD, the only options it gives me are the CD/DVD drive and 4 USB ports.

Just before this happened, I stupidly accepted something that McAfee warned me about thinking it was an update but now I know it was a registry change, which apparently is bad. Also my PC found (but quarantined) a trojan.

A bit of background on myself, I'm only 19, I'm not clued up on all technical terms so please go easy on me, and right now I'm at work so I won't be able to answer all technical questions and such.

My PC is an Acer PC, its got a 640GB HDD and 4GB ram, and an AMD Phenom processor, thats about all I could tell you now.

Any suggestions welcome as right now I'm pissed off that I only bought this PC on new years day!!

    Thanks.

Well, it sounds like your HD is bad, or the controller. If you bought this on New years day, it should still be under warranty and I recommend you contact the maker's Tech Support.

The maker of the PC itself i.e. Acer? Or will the HDD have a separate manufacturer I should contact?

The controller is part of the motherboard so contacting the HDD maker is premature. You should contact the store where you bought it, or Acer.
