It is extremely rare that a bad integrated circuit (IC) device (computer "chip") shows any visible signs of damage. So, how do you know a "chip" is bad? What chip? And what are the problems your computer is having?

In the old days, we used to repair motherboards. But now, it is rarely cost effective. First, you need the replacement part, which may be expensive. Then it takes a skilled technician, trained and practiced at precision soldering and repairing multi-layered PCBs (printed circuit boards). Most motherboards have 4 to 8 layers of circuitry sandwiched together. So parts + labor costs can quickly exceed the cost of motherboard replacement.
