Monitor stops working sometimes - not optimum mode ??

    Hello.......
Sometimes when I switch users or leave my PC alone and it goes to screen saver,
when I come back to use it I get no display apart from a floating box saying " Not optimum mode. Recommended mode 1280 x 1024 60 Hz" the only way I can get rid of this is to pull the power cable from the monitor, turning off on the button will not correct it.
My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster913N and I've never had any problems with it till now.......
I dont think its a connection or cable error as I've tried other things to fix it but the only thing that works is to power off the monitor for 5 minutes or so then it is OK !!!

Thanks in advance for any help

    Gaz

The first thing you need to do is determine if it is the monitor, or the computer/graphics card and the easiest way to do that is try another monitor on that computer. If it does the same thing, we know it is the computer or graphics card. If the 2nd monitor works fine, then it would point your monitor.

Of course, make sure all the cable connections are tight and secure, and the computer's resolution is set to one the monitor recognizes. For LCD monitors, there is a "native" resolution for best performance.

    Hi,
I definately think its a monitor issue, the only thing that will correct it is to unplug the power cable for a few minutes.
If I restart the PC its still the same.
I've checked all connections and the settings are set to 1280 x 1040.

I don't. But you need to make sure. What often happens is when the computer is signaled to wake up by pressing a key or moving the mouse, a signal is sent to the graphics card to wake up the monitor. If the card is not getting the signal or is not processing it properly, or is not sending a wake up signal to the monitor, the monitor will not wake up. When you unplug, the monitor and card sync up again and work, for a while. I still recommend trying another monitor, or trying your monitor on another computer and see what happens.

OK I will try my monitor on another PC.
But why does restarting the PC not sync the card and monitor back up?

    Thanks again Digerati

Because something is not working right - we just need to figure out what.
