Can anyone please help me!
I keep having this problem!
What happen is,
I have 512MB x 2 of RAM already in my laptop (that's = 1GB) but then I wanted to upgrade it as high as I could to make it faster. So I've check on the net and it said my laptop could go up to 3GB but recommended 2.50GB.
So I bought a 2GB ram.
To install I took one of the ram off, now I got just one 512MB left on there and then replace it with my brand new 2GB ram.
After that I turn on my latop everything works fine and it is faster, on the system it now says I got 2.50GB of ram. I was very please and happy about that, BUT! I keep getting these blue screen popping up with an error and then it just restart my laptop automaticly, just like that. Even when I am half way thorugh my work and I just lost everything!!
It keeps doing it like now and then like... every 3 hour or maybe just as soon as I turn it on. You just don't know when it's gona happen.
dose anyone know anyway of stopping this please help me!!
Welcome to D-A-L.
Are you absolutely sure that the RAM module you bought is compatable with your machine? Your problem description fits the possibilities of:
- Incompatable RAM module
- Not properly/fully inserted
The laptop manufacturer should have listings of compatable/tested RAM for your machine on the website (your machines specifications).
I think if it were not inserted properly, it would fail at the start, not 3 hours into use. I suspect it is incompatible and I agree with Dan, you need to check the notebook maker's site. If you need more help, we need more information, starting with the make and model of the notebook.
Alternatively the problem could be heat buildup in the case, most likely due to dust and dirt build-up, and the added demands of more RAM, or some other hardware problem.
We also need to know the error given with the BSOD.
I have seen desktops and laptops with the module not fully "in"/locked at one end, and as the units heat up (especially laptops) you get the slightest seperation of the finger contacts. Hence failure after a time period of operation.
I've also seen a monitor cable or two forced on 180 degrees out of whack. These are "D" shaped connectors and you would think they wouldn't go on, but I've seen them forced on. Also male PS2 connectors with most of the pins bent over. These things can and do happen.
I agree heat could be an issue, but as this just started occurring after the new RAM, I didn't raise that issue as I suspect RAM incompatablity.
Lots of strange things can happen as matter expands and contracts as it warms and cools. If that is the case, it will surely get worse as carbon and dirt build up, and get in the way. For that matter, if the new RAM was installed in a previously unused slot, removing and inserting the RAM a couple times may scrape clean any dirty contacts. The danger is damaging the RAM due to mishandling, or static discharge - care to prevent either is necessary.I have seen desktops and laptops with the module not fully "in"/locked at one end, and as the units heat up (especially laptops) you get the slightest seperation of the finger contacts. No, I am pretty sure it's not virus or heat, because my laptop is very new and I am good with viruses. But it is defo soming to do with the new ram I've install. Since I've install it this message in blue screen keep coming up. In the erro message it did say something about the new hardware install or the memory. It shut down too quick when the erro comes up so I couldn't get the fully info.
I think this really make sens "the RAM module you bought is compatable with your machine?" Cuz I won't know anything about that. Can you please tell me how can I find out what type of ram my laptop need?
thank you so....! much!!!
But in the way, before I've bought the ram, I did check that if this ram will work on my laptop and it did say that it will....? So could that mean it is a wrong type for me still?
Your ram timing may be off. Check your timing. If off just a little can make pc reboot.
What is the make and exact model of your laptop?
ie; Dell machine, model: Latitude 6200, etc etc.
it's "Compaq presario C700 Notebook PC"
Also,
Is there another way to make my laptop get use to my this ram or there is only one way, is to get the right ram for it?
