Okay, this is really strange, my DVD drive suddenly stopped working. According to the hardware device manager it can 'find the drivers for this device but failed to detect the actual hardware'. According to trouble shooter the drive is broken, so i bought a new drive and replaced it...now im getting the same error message, only this time the new drive is the listed device, which means it must be detecting it to some degree or it wouldnt know what the new drive's model was. I even tried replacing the IDE cable and updating the drivers. I know its not a power problem either, because the tray opens and closes fine...any suggestions?

Edit: By the way, Im running XP on a compaq presario, the old drive was a lite on and the new one is a sony
