    Sometimes.

    It can do two things:

Clean out old dust as well as perhaps "shake up" the mechanism arm.

Don't shake up the can by the way.

It is a good thing to have to clean many computer parts like your keyboard and monitor etc.

Any hardware or computer store should carry it. Just ask for "canned air".

The brand I get here is called "Duster".

    Oh so true.

Yes also Walmart and best buy. It is not an uncommon thing to find.

I can see with lack of use that dust could settle inside the drive if it can get in it. Also how the arm could get "stuck" but does it work otherwise? Will it read but not write?

Don't shake up the can by the way.
Also don't turn it upside down!!! In either case the air will turn very cold and have a lot of moisture.

Any errors indicated by a red X. Have you tried the drive in another computer? That is the next thing that I would try. Have you tried using 3rd party software like nero? Have you tried to format the disc? Does it read cds?

    "format the disc"
right click then select format, there no format.
    "2"
show right click after the dise inserted.

    "3"
    nero seem to read it.

I see that that is a dvd. Have you tried cds? Have you tried to use a disc that already has something on it? Can you try it in another computer?
