    Computer turns itself off

Whenever i turn my computer on it will load for about 2-5 seconds and then turn itself off. Ive checked to make sure all the fans are working correctly and they are, i havent tried replacing the psu yet, because i want to try everything i can before i buy new stuff for it. It never gives me enough time to open the BIOS settings to even find out if its running to hot or not. Im using my laptop at the moment because my desktop wont load, so i cant run any stress tests or anything on it.

i have an old gatewy computer. Imnot sure what kind it is, but i know some of the specs for it off the top of my head. It has an intel pentium 4 processor, nvidia GeForce 6200 video card, a maxtor ata/100 harddrive, and im not sure what power supply it has or the voltages or anything, and i know it has 512 mb of space.

Is there anything else it could be before i try a new psu? Thanks in advance.

As Digerati would suggest, open your case after unplugging everything and buy a can of air and give it a good cleaning (just with air). Also, making sure you follow good electrostatic discharge procedure, try unplugging and re-seating your ram card/cards. That would be a first good step of procedures to follow. Oh, and welcome to DAL.

Check your PC case power button, make sure it is not stucked.

Stucked power button has the same phenomenon to shut down PC.

    Check this before the PSU.

    Hope this helps!
