    Hey all....

    In need of ya help...!

Just brought the E8500 from OC's, Installed it, and i'm getting nothing, have power to the system, but nothing on the displays.

Re-installed my old CPU and that works fine..

Also have updated my bios to use the chip

    Any ideas??

    Board - MSI -- MICRO-STAR INT'L CO., LTD.

    CPU - Overclockers UK

    Thanks in advance

Hi Lee and Welcome. I got your CPU figured out, the correct link is here but your motherboard link does not go to any board. Please post a correct link, and the full model number too.

Was the motherboard unplugged from the wall when you installed the new CPU? And did you observe good ESD precautions?

Yep, everything was unplugged when installing the new CPU..

Yeah, I meant the computer, not motherboard. Sorry about that.

Well, according to that link, your board does support the E8500. If your old CPU still works fine, and you updated the BIOS, and you installed the new CPU properly - no bent or damages contacts, the CPU fan is working and you applied a proper layer of TIM, then it points to a bad CPU.

Well, looks like i have to send the CPU to Intel first before i can do an RMA, i might try and send the MB to MSI, see if they can check it out!

To Intel? Well, that forced me to check Overclockers Support page and I see you are right. You need to contact Newegg.com and have them expand into the UK.

At least with Intel, if bad, you can be sure the replacement is good. But I don't see Intel listed on their list!

The only other thing I might do before contacting Intel is verify the latest BIOS, ver 1.4, was successfully installed, and maybe reset it too. Then, with only the CPU, 1 stick of RAM, keyboard, mouse and the graphics card/monitor installed and connected (no hard drive), install the CPU, TIM, HSF, power up and boot. You should see the initial boot process on the monitor, the graphics card's splash screen and then it will halt when it cannot find a boot drive. Don't forget to unplug from the wall and stay in contact with bare metal of the case.

The only other way to verify is to install that CPU in another fully compatible PC - if you have a spare stuck in a closet somewhere, which would be nice because it may work. I think you should contact MSI and ask them to verify Ver 1.4 for that model (and version #) motherboard supports that Intel. They may work with you. You can include a link to this thread (http://www.d-a-l.com/help/general-ha...-problems.html) so you don't have to retype all you did.
