    Canon IP 4600

What a rip off. I had a IP5000 which was brilliant, never missed a beat for years. Finally died. Replaced with an IP4600. 2hours and I was out of ink. Checking ink cartridges against the 5000 and they are half the size with a smaller ink tank inside. Plus now chipped so I cant use refillable ink tanks which I did for the 5000. Anybody got any ideas on how to use fillable tanks or generic type. Thanks

Wait! Understand that most ink cartridges that come with new printers are little demo size (ounces of ink) cartridges. I do not recommend the use of refilled cartridges and do not have full faith in 3rd party cartridges either - but with the costs (and very good quality print) of budget printers these days, it is hard for some to justify buying OEM. So, if you want to refill your own, I urge you to bite the bullet and open your wallet - buy a set of genuine Cannon cartridges, then use those for your refills. I think you will find they last a lot longer than 2 hours.

Yes the ones that came with the printer were small, have replaced with Canon gen ones, not much different. I also cut a used one in half, same as the 5000 I had and they are much smaller cartridges.

I knew there are printer technicians out there can modify the printer a bit so the users can simply add more different color inks by injecting the ink to the external ink catridge/bank easily.

Here is what they do, they use a very small plastic tube barely larger than a ribbon cable and extend the tubes from the original ink cartridge to the external set of the transparent and refillable ink bank/cartridge. So users can just watch how much ink in each external ink slot and do the refill as easily as just like pouring the ink in the external ink cartridge.

But this normally will void the printer warranty.
Only good for those commercial or the user who need to print a lot.

I am glad you put this in there.

Also, refilling can sometimes get very messy.

    Sure thing.

For most cases, the original cartridge ink and even plus the replacement of another new cartridge won't last as long as the warranty period, so this is really depend on the personal judgment when concerning the costs paying on original or OEM cartridges or getting the professional upgrade on the printer.

    Nice weekend!
