    screen problems ?

hi i have a white line about 50mm wide right down the middle of the screen and a black line abot 75mm down the right hand side , in between these lines the video is fine.

any ideas, i was thinking the inverter may be faulty, but i am worried its the screen.

    many thanks in advance.

50 and 75 millimeters? That's 5 inches! I would call those huge bars, not lines! And not good.

It is most likely something with the inverter. Do the bars change or move as you open and close the clamshell?

Attach an external monitor. If the bars are there too, it is your graphics card (notebook's motherboard - ).

Last I checked, inverters were from $50 to $140. Any good shop should be able to do it within 1 manhour. Often, the boards can be repaired. If a common, well known fault, requiring little to no troubleshooting, the components and labor costs for repair may be worth it. But if the "usual suspects" are not the problem, it takes little time before labor costs troubleshooting the whole assembly exceed the cost of a new assembly. There are several sites on line that offer flat rate costs - depending on size of monitor. That's for all LCDs, not just notebook monitors.

Hmmm, learned something new. Thanks! See, that's way I come to forums.

I did not know 3rd party panels were that available, that cheaply. That's what I get for avoiding working on laptops! They have just been too proprietary - and expensive.

And you are happy with the actual display? No dead pixels, bright/dim spots, distortions? How is glare, viewing angle, and display compared to the old one when it was working?

I had a screen problem too and had to change the inverter! Found some cheap ones on ebay. Glad you were able to fix your problem but kinda costly! PC Portable Occasion
