Need some advice Jerphee or anyone
Hello guys,
I am working on my sister-in-laws computer (dell) and I ran Dr. Webb and removed 30 trojans. What I need help is, she don't have an anit-virus and I can't install one because its telling me that one is already running. But, she doesn't. She had "defender Pro" and let it run out and if I try to uninstall it by the control panel it will not let me remove it. She told me that she enter the registery by the "run" command and removed all the files that had anything to do with defender pro. I told her that messing around with the registery is not a good thing to do. How can remove defender pro beside the control panel? Btw, there is no uninstall in the program for defender pro folder, I checked that already.
2nd thing is, I can't install Itunes for her because of the same reason as defender pro. Can't remove it through the control panel and program folder. She did the same as defender pro by deleting files in the registery for Itunes. When I try to install new Itunes I just get errror message say, basically you can't install because Itunes already installed. But, the program will not work.
Any suggest Jerphee? I personally think she really mess things up by deleting files from the registery?
Thanks guys

Yes the best way to uninstall programs is through the control panel. That makes sure that everything is gone & that nothing else thinks that it is there. It takes care of the files & registry. NO ONE should should touch the registry unless they know what they are doing & only then if they have research it.
As for completing an unintsall you could try the Windows install cleanup utility [free] or Advanced Uninstaller Pro [trial]. Either of those might work.
I hope this helps.

Nope! I am still unable to remove Itunes or Defender Pro. When I look in the task manage it shows both things running by the system. I have no idea how to remove intunes or defender pro?? Any more suggestions? Thanks tho

To stop a task from running using task manager, click on it, hit the delete button, & then click yes to confirm. This should work unless the process is locked up. I don't know about defender pro but I do know that iTunes typically runs 3 to 5 programs continually.
Look for the following programs in task manager. If you don't see it, don't worry about it.
AppleMobleDeviceHelper.exe
AppleMobleDeviceService.exe
disnoted.exe
iPodService.exe
mDNSResponder.exe
These are all of the applications that the newest version of iTunes runs all of the time unless you prevent it from doing so. Once you stop all of these then you should be able to uninstall the programs. Try the add/remove program first & then the other programs I referred you to. Don't log out or restart you computer after stopping iTunes or your Defender program because windows will just run them again. Also, if you run more than one user at once you might want to click "Show Processes from all users" in order to make sure you get all of the iTunes & defender pro programs stopped.

So did you get it uninstalled? If not try uninstalling while in safe mode.
