DVD ROM drive problem
Hello everyone, thanks for taking the time to consider the problem I am having.
I am running Windows XP and am having an issue where my DVD ROM drive will not open. My DVD RW drive appears to be working fine. I have been in the Device Manager & it says there both drives are working properly.
Any ideas?
Thanks

When did this start?
Have you scanned for malware?
This could just be a jammed or broken tray mechanism. What happens if you click on Eject from the drive's properties under My Computer?
Does the drive's light come on when press the front panel button?
If you have a CD stuck inside, take a paper clip and straighten it out so you have about 2 inches of straight metal - try to make it as straight as possible. Find the little tiny hole on the front of the CD drive and insert the clip slowly and straight in until you make contact, then press the spring loaded tray release, usually about 1/2 inch, to pop open the tray.
If all appears fine, even though the device driver appears good, I would probably remove the existing drivers, reboot, and install new ones.

I just noticed a few days ago that it wouldn't open.
I have done all my scans that I normally do for malware, spyware & virus
The eject button does the same thing the front panel button does, it trys to open and after a attempt or two it actually starts to run the CD thats in the drive. And the light does come on.
I have already uninstalled the drivers and installed new ones.
I will try the paperclip trick
Thx

I used the paperclip trick to remove the CD from the drive & everything seems to be working just fine now. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks again for the help.

Great! I am glad it was something simple, and thanks for the followup.
