    corrupt harddrive

    greetings from Noobville,

hope there's a feasable solution for my problem:

I have a Maxtor one touch II USB harddrive which has ceased to function.

It's drive letter is now different when the computer boots and when i try to open it i get the message that :

    E:\ is not accessible
the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

i had a look in the Disk Manager and the volume is there and it's status is Healthy(active). however, the capacity/remaining space is incorrect (it says 100%) available.

i have tried it on another computer with the same results.

So, i badly need to recover my data, is it feasable?

    thanks in advance.

Since it does the same thing on another computer, the drive may be bad, or it may be the enclosure. You should be able to remove the HD from the enclosure and install it as a slave in a PC and retrieve your files.

you mean not using the USB then. what other connection does this disc have?
Isn't there any "soft" solution, like a recovery prog?

    thanks

I mean you would have to open the enclosure and remove the hard drive and install it in another machine - then just read it from within My Computer.
There are recovery programs such as Recuva, from the makers of CCleaner.

Guys, i solved the problem very painlessly with getdataback from Runtime Software.

this might be useful for the next "victim"

    thanks again!
