The BIOS Setup "key" should be listed when the computer starts.

If not Delete it is often F2.

I doubt that it would show much in this regard.

Did you create a partition when you installed Windows?

    What is the Operating System?

What File Format did you use?

    Check Disk Management:

right click My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management

You created a partition and installed XP on it in NTFS?

How big is the partition? This partition is now F: and contains XP?

Any chance you can send a screen shot of your Disk Management?

    My read on that is:

    1) you have two hard drives; one @ 120 & one @ 40

    2) you installed XP onto the 40GB hard drive.

Can you verify / clarify this?

Well your computer is contradicting that.

Do you have two physical hard drives in the computer?

Look in the Device Manager under Disk Drives.

right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager then Disk Drives

So you have a Maxtor 120GB and a Seagate 40GB.

Leaving drive letters aside for the moment you apparently installed XP (System) on the Seagate 40GB drive.

If you want your XP on the 120GB drive I would suggest reinstalling.

As far as I see there is no missing space just a confusion of drive letters which is mysterious.

Anyway if you have no other issues this is not a bad setup.

You have the 120GB for storage and a dedicated 40GB for XP (system).

Are you having any problems with the way the computer functions?

Were both these drives "empty" before you installed XP?

Again as to the letters I will search my sources for possible reasons but I see no "lost GB's".
