    Question Monitor wont stay on...

I have a HP Slimline computer running Windows XP and a 21" flat panel HP Monitor. A few weeks ago when the computer went into sleep mode the monitor turned off and would have to be re-turned back on, which it hasn't done for the past 2 years of owning the system. When it was turned on it was fine...

Then it started turning off at random times, again you turn it back on and it was fine...

Then it would turn off and not come back on, if you waited a few minutes, unplugged the cord and re attached it, it would come back on...

NOW... you do everything besides throwing it out the window and if you try turning it on, it wont. If you try changing the power cord, no change. If you let it sit a few days and then replug it in the light comes on and then turns off right away.

I am using an old monitor and the system works fine.. and I am using the same power cord from the broken monitor, and I have tried a seperate powerd cord so it's not the cord. I have it down to definitely being the monitor. Can anyone help me diagnose? Should I send it for repair or is this something that can be repaired at all?

    Thanks in advance.

    What is the monitor worth.

Basically a repair would not be worth it.

As to the power cord these have transformers on them.

No monitors are the same but most use anywhere from 12 to 19 volts.

It is possible that the transformer is bad and it needs to be replaced by one of the same voltage.

One way to achieve this is via a laptop AC adapter with a variable voltage setting.

Anyway hook up the original power cord. Does the transformer light come on (green)?

If not check the voltage on that transformer and try to find another at the same voltage.

Just beware that these transformers run @ $100 US.

If that light does come on Green then the problem is at the monitor itself.

Let us know about the transformer.
