    Hard drive no longer detected

I have a Maxtor 500gb sata hard drive and it's been working on my computer for around 3-4 months now. Last night when i was on it, everything was working fine.

When i woke up this morning i ran my computer and it told me to insert boot media drive or something. I looked at the bios post and it said that it wasn't detecting any hard drive.

I then tried my hard drive on the pc i am using now and the same error occured. Does this mean my hard drive is fried? If so is there any way of me recovering the data?

    Thanks

    That's not good.

Unfortunately, if it does not work on two computers that you know to be set up properly for SATA drives, then it sure appears the drive is toast. If you cannot even see the drive, then there is no way you are going to be able to recover any data from it - short of taking it to a Data Recovery center where forensic type recovery takes place - they disassemble the drive and attempt to read the platters directly. This takes specialized equipment and highly qualified technicians and can cost $1000s - which may or may not be worth it, depending on the data saved.

    Sorry.

If less than 3 years old, it is probably still under warranty.

yeah i think it still is under warrenty. And i've only had the hard drive for about 3 months so the data isn't too valuable.

    thanks for letting me know
