sata ?
Hi guys I have a laptop that has a sata HD in it, the other day it died and I'm not sure if its a sata or sata2 can anyone tell me the diffrence can I use either one or is there a way to find out what my HD is.

SATA II or SATA 3 is the latest version. 3GB/S data transfer.
SATA I or SATA 1.5 is a few years old. 1.5GB/S data transfer.
Most SATA II drives have a jumper on the rear to reduce to SATA I.
Most new drives will be SATA II.
For further details what is the make and model of the laptop?

So if I order any SATA drive one two or three it will work fine in my laptop? I guess I will only get transfer speeds as fast as the motherboard can handle.

A new drive will be SATA II and it should be able to be jumpered down.
You are correct about the motherboard. A SATA I board will not even see a SATA II drive.
I am just not certain about laptop drives as I have never used one.
Again on a standard SATA II you can set it to run as SATA I via a jumper.
