right il have a bash at formatting both them, the only problem is now that windows doesnt see the partition i stored everything on
like it doesnt come up in my computer, and in disk management its there, but ies a eisa configuration and i dont have the option to format it ?:S
Huh? Now I'm lost. stored what on? You have said, the only problem is now that windows doesnt see the partition i stored everything onOnce formated, the data is gone.first of all i formatted the drive, set it as active so i could boot from it.
And sorry, I missed earlier where you said,- see How to fix: NTLDR is missing, press any key to restartntldr is missing error
haha sorry its quite hard to explain.
the first bit i lost you on :
originally when i formatted the whole HD and setup two partitions, they both popped up in my computer and i could open them both etc, i then used ghost etc and now when i plug the HD in, i can only see the partition that i didnt transfer my data to.
hope that makes sense.
about to checkthe link now
cheers for all your help!
iv tried that link, i tried using a usb boot and the only difference was that instead of getting ntldr is missing, i just got a blank screen ?
I think Ghost might have messed up your partition tables. We may have to back up - I am afraid I don't know what is happening. I don't use Ghost so I don't want to lead you astray.
Your original drive is still good right?
Did you new drive come with a utilities disk? They usually come with a utility to transfer everything to the new drive. If no disk, the HD makers website should have it.
think im going to try the whole thing again.... if i can manage to format itlike i said the problem is when i go into disk management the disk is a eisa configuration and doesnt give me the option to format it
yeah my original HD is fine so that isnt a problem.
no disk came with itbut il try their websites!
not meaning to bring an old thread up but i figured it out so thought id post my reply:
i basically realised i was going about this the wrong way, i was trying the hard way and realised that if i just booted the PC up with the HD in (blank) i could just install a fresh new xp, and then manually transfer data over
i had to remove the EISA configuration first as it was taking up 40gb, i did the following to do so
Start-> Type "diskpart."-> type "list disk" -> type "select disk n" (n is the disk you chose, probably 0)-> type "list partition"-> type "select partition n" -> type "delete partition"-> type "delete partition override"
thanks for the help anyway !![]()
No better reason to bring up an old thread - I am glad your got it sorted out and thanks for posting a followup.not meaning to bring an old thread up but i figured it out so thought id post my reply
