Will POST but then power down without notice

Ok, I went and bought the following and put them all together.

    MoBo: XFX 780i nVidia Chipset
    CPU: Q6600
    RAM: Geil (4x1GB) 800MHz PC6400
    CASE: Antec 1200
    PSU: Thermaltake 750w

I harvested an old GPU: nVidia 8600 GT to connect a monitor

It all lights up and all the fans run and it POST's. As there is no HDD i can't really go further than the BIOS/CMOS. BUT the major problem is that after about 20-30 seconds it decides it wants to power down. No warning and it powers down whether your in the BIOS or not. Sometimes it powers down before you can reach the BIOS

My fear is that the PSU may not be pumping enough wattage into the thing, however i'm not SLi-ing anything so it should be enough.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Richard

Wattage is certainly not an issue here.

The CPU most likely has a heat shutdown level.

Enter the BIOS and check the temperatures. Also check the CPU options for the shutdown levels.

You did use thermal compound: yes?

Also load the latest BIOS but only on a stable system.

A shutdown during a BIOS flash is fatal.

And just another reason why every computer should be on an UPS.

I agree, your PSU is more than ample and this looks like a heat issue - either no or improperly applied TIM, or inadequate ventilation would be my guess.

Also verify that you used the 8 pin PSU ATX CPU configuration and not the 4 pin.

The quad CPU requires this plus I am just assuming a Thermaltake PSU of that wattage has the necessary leads.

Checked the PSU...the Intel CPU fan wasn't seated properly. and it is a 8 pin. Seems to work, thank god. Was about to use a hammer on it.

    Thank you for the help.

Looking at you other posts, a hammer seems to be the solution to everything :P
    Glad it all works now
