i am not sure whether this post should be kept under hardware category..because i dont know wht is causing the problem. the problem is that whenever i try to play any songs or watch movie from my cd/dvd drive the sound gets blurred. at other times it is completely normal. i play some music or watch a movie..it's normal but when i access any data from my cd ( be it copying some songs/movie or watching the movie) the sound automatically gets disturbed..i.e gets blurred. or to be precise whenever the cd or the dvd drive is busy (i.e the green light on it turns on ) the sound is disturbed. i tried both ( the cd drive as well as the dvd/rw ) and got problem in both . due to this i can't watch movie directly from the drive. i have to first copy it to the hard drive and then see it.

Have you tried using a third party disk cleaner like Philips Lens cleaner on the drive?

Was sound okay previously? Has any software or hardware changes been made recently?

Computer specs and O/S needed also.

no it's not a problem with the drive. the drive works well on other computers. preciously i had not noticed this problem..so not sure whether it was present or not before. i am using windows xp- professional 2002 Service pack 2 and a pentium 4, 3.4 GHz , 1MB RAM.

Does sound work OK like on UTube videos. Just trying to rule out sound card.

Also have you tried a System Restore point to a time before this problem occurred?

yah it works well on youtube..
and i don't know exactly from when this problem appeared ...... i just noticed it few weeks back..before that from how long this problem had been occuring...i don't know..so no point in doing system restore....however i haven't created a restore date either.

I would recommend reinstalling drivers for your card - I had the problem that all sound from cds and dvds were distorted, so I reinstall drivers and it was fine..
