Hi All,
Can anyone help me with my little dilema. I recently took on a job to network my friends house. All went well and they asked for wireless. I did all my research and my findings lead me to ebuyer and to D-Link PCMCIA Card (Dlink DWL-G650+ 54mbps 802.11g Wireless CardBus Card - http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=53221).
Everything was fine, the router was easly setup and configured properly with all the encription and passwords, the only problem being that 2 of the laptops wouldn't accept the cards ![]()

The two laptops in question are HP Compaq nx9005, they both have various problems with the cards. Firstly they freeze the machine rendering the laptop usless and make mutliple USB device removed error sounds randomly. Secondly they can cause the blue screen of death to appear, sometimes when XP has fully loaded, other times, when they get to the boot screenIf its not one problme its the other. Sometimes they work, but for a very short period of time.
The other laptop has no problems and run the card without any problems and works like a dream. I've check all the crads within the working laptop and they are fine, so there are no physical problems. I found that the 1st laptop had Norton installed and that was causing major problems, the 2nd seems to have less problems and just freezes from time to time.
I went through a general check list to find the cause(s) of the problems to try and find a cure -
1) Check processor speed, required 300mhz (both passed as they are 2.4+ghz AMD chips)
2) Check RAM, required 32mb (both passsed as they have 192mb minimum)
3) Check power draw from the card (both passed as I set them to Auto, rather than either level 1 through 4, 1 been highest, 4 been lowest)
4) Check for Norton or any other Virus / Internet / System works tools, i.e. McAfee, Zone Alarm .... etc (Both had Norton went drivers and card was installed, so I un-installed the drivers and card and started again with the apps either disabled or un-installed)
Both latops went through the list, but still there are the problems
HELP

Nasty conlfict that is going to be very difficult to track down. Since it happens on boht of the laptops of the same brand, I would email HP support and put the question ot them. Are you using the lates WHQL approved drivers for the two cards? Could be that HP's version of XP installed is fussy? Is there any way you can try another type of wireless card in the HPs? That way you could ask D-Link support if there is a specific isssue between this card and these models of notebook.
Yeah, its a very nasty problem and has been causing me and my mate great problems
I called D-Link to day and they thought it might be a BIOS issue, as there was successful in the indpendant laptop and suggested I call HP, so I did. One the huge automated system was negociated, I got through to a technical support. They confrimed D-Link suspisions and advised I use their BIOS update. I have to admit that HP technical support are really helpful and will even call you back to see if the solution works![]()
I haven't managed to get around to my mates house (where both laptops are at the moment) to flash the BIOS, but I'm really hoping that it'll work![]()
I'm having similar problems with a nx9005. I have DLink 650+ PCMCIA wirelass LAN cards which run fine on my other systems. But when i use them on the 9005, i get very inconsistent results, with usually no connection. its driving me mad as it is my daughters system that she uses at university.
anybody got any ideas?

Thanks. That seems to have done the trick.
