Monitor Issue
Hello,
I have a dell E153FPF that just recently bit the dust on me, i came to the conclusion that it was the power board that went bad on me so i ordered a new one put it in no problems it actually lights up this time but now its stuck in what I'm presuming is the self-test it will change background colors (red, green, blue, white, grey). I have tried to turn off the monitor and unplug it and plugging it back in i have also tried to turn both the computer and the monitor off and turning the computer on and waiting for it to boot to turn the monitor back on and it still just goes to the screen changing between those colors. If there is anything anyone can suggest it would be greatly appreciated.

What exactly happened with the old computer? "Bit the dust"?
Did the monitor work on it? Can you try the monitor on another computer?
Next: did you replace the exact same motherboard?
You need to reinstall your operating system from Dell but you also most likely need the exact same motherboard. Dell is very into exacting replacements. Very proprietary.

it wasn't the computer that went it was just the monitor, what happened is one day i went upstairs and the monitor was off, computer was still on but there was no power to the monitor, other monitors work on the computer so its not the computer itself.
i also made sure it was a motherboard specifically for the monitor i made sure they both were the same but i can double-check that to be 100% sure, i wasn't quite sure if it could possibly be drivers for the monitor, maybe more recent ones that i don't have since it has been a while since i had to install them.
*edit*
okay so i tried re-installing the drivers for it as-well and its still giving me the same problem, this time when it started it actually was at a complete black screen but had a little bit of faint movement on it (more looked like it died on me again) but then i hit the button with the minus on it [ - ] and it went back to the changing between colors like the original post i had.
i had also checked the part number on the old board for the monitor and the new one i have and both match up.

Ok ... I am confused ... sorry ...
First off monitors usually require no drivers. What driver did you use?
Next what "board" are you referring to? Are you changing something within the monitor itself?
I was assuming the motherboard which is in the computer.
Do you mean your Graphics card?
Just to try and clarify:
There is nothing wrong with your computer?
This is all your monitor?

sorry if i may have confused you at all ill try to clarify it a little better,
correct there is nothing wrong with my computer itself.
yes, it is all the monitor
the board im referring to is this board Dell E153FPF AD Board (Logic Board) www.lcdrepair.us its a power board for my monitor. the actual problem it was having was the bad power supply symptom and thats why i replaced the board in the monitor.
the driver was just something i happened to find on dells website that i thought i would give a shot since it cant really make things worse than they are right now.
and just so that there is no confusion like i stated earlier i replaced the board because it was a bad power supply after i replaced it i got power to the monitor but like i first posted it is now giving me the colored screens, but at least there is power to the monitor now

Just to verify: There was never any issue on the transformer on the power line?
The transformer always worked?
How did you originally suspect this particular "card"?
Next: are you sure you installed the new card properly?
Also: Does this appear to be your model:
Troubleshooting: Dell™ E153FP Flat Panel Color Monitor User's Guide
Looks like you are seeing the "Self-Test Feature Check (STFC)"
-
there was no problem with the transformer on the power line and i suspected this card after searching online through multiple peoples problems and noticing that once i went to that website my monitor had the same issues as the bad power supply which is part of that actual card so to be able to fix that i had to replace the whole card
that link u posted is my monitor type and im thinking its a type of self test but instead of there being a small box with all those colors the whole screen is one solid color then changes, just a note i also cant get any of the monitor settings to appear yet the buttons (atleast the power button) for the monitor still work fine
the monitor will change into a screen like this
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si.../59375_001.jpg
and every few seconds it will change color unlike the described "floating self test feature" that the troubleshooting website describes.
i have looked through that troubleshooting site just to see if it would change anything and i actually tested those options before i created this.
-
Just to verify you are running this test with the monitor disconnected from the computer?
If so is there any difference if you are connected to the computer?
Also have you tried a different cable?
-
i tried both connected and disconnected and there was no change i actually even took the monitor cable off the monitor itself and turned it on and there was still no change, i do have another cable i can try, doubt that its the cable but i can none the less try it just to eliminate the possibility of that being it.
im still getting the same thing im starting to wonder if maybe the board they sent me has something wrong with the video plug-in or do you think if that was the case i wouldn't even be getting the changing screens?

First off editing your post gives no notice that new info has been added.
Hence I did not see your add.
From what I see at the Dell site the monitor Self Test should work with the monitor just by itself.
My next thought would be that the problem is "deeper" than that particular circuit board.
