CD-Drive not showing
sorry if this has already been posted but i cant find the thread if it has.
i have a HP nx6325 and the CD/DVD drive hasnt been showing up in My computer or the bios. i dont know whether this is the case or not but it tends to show up if i give the laptop a good bump, which cant be good for it.
so anyone have any idea why it is doin this?
i think there is a cable thats a bit loose on the inside and i would like to get inside there and take a look. maybe connect and disconnect it, but im not sure how to. anyone have any experience takin apart nx6325 laptops or ones that are similar? blueprints might help.
and thirdly if i cant get it working (its out of warrently and i can live without most of the time) how do i reinstall windows when i only have the cds?
thanks for any help

ok. i did all that. there is only one connecter for laptops from the cd/dvd drive to the computer right? for power and data. i pluged it back in and made it as secure as possbile and its still not showing. any other ideas? i dont have a spare laptop drive i can test.

Should just be a single connection.
From your "bump" note it would indicate a connection problem.
Inspect the connections. Perhaps clean both drive and slot with alcohol.
Is there a light on the drive face? If so does it go on? Can you open it? In other words does it appear to get power?
-
there is no light but it does get power. u can hear it makin noise wen u put a cd in. not sure if it spins wen the cd is put in thoough. the connections look alright. bit of dust but that blows away easy and they dont apear to be damaged.
-
yea the cd does spin wen its in there

Are you sure the BIOS does not detect it?
-
not 100% sure but it doesnt mension anything about it wen i go into the bios. it did this a few times before i reformatted a couple of months and i reset the bios to factory settings so im assuming its not the bios or any software interfearing with it. but since then its gotten slower cause of random programs i have installed i guess. and it feels like it needs a reformat, defrag didnt help.
and when i put in the windows disks they dont boot, which is an indication that it has nothing to do with the windows or programs installed on the comp

Is the CD drive (if detected) set in the Boot Menu to boot prior to the hard drive?

yea it is. at the risk of sounding retarded optical drive is the cd drive and disk drive is the hard drive right?
