i have a pentium 4 computer and a pentium 3 laptop. Both have windows xp installed in them. i have a 33kbps modem attached to the computer (external). and i have a 49kbps modem (internal) attached to the laptop. i want to connect the computer and the laptop through a phone line cable i.e RJ11 cable. so how can i connect the laptop and the computer, so that i can transfer or share my files? please help me in guiding me the steps to connect the two computers.

You can't use a modem without a phone line, the modem requires phone voltages and signalling to work.



I would recommend a serial or parallel connection. Pretty much every computer has one of those 2 available and the speed is quit decent. By using this method you can transfer files just like you are connected to a LAN.
